:: House Moving Procedures
Please note that your house moving project is unique and the following is intended as a general guide only. Please call us with any specific questions.
Permits Required for House Moving
Client Responsibility: (Typical)
- Health Permits for well & septic field (if not on City Sewer & water)
- Building permit at new location
- Demolition / Move off permit at old site & services disconnected
If you are buying a house from somebody else ENSURE that they have a Demolition / Move off permit and they have disconnected all services
Mover Responsibility: (Typical)
- Road use permits
- Mover deals with utility companies as required, however customer pays utility company charges
It may be necessary for local utility companies (telephone, electrical, cable, etc.) to escort the move to deal with overhead obstructions, or to supervise our transporting of your house in the proximity of their equipment. Their charges for this service are not included in our prices. You will be invoiced for the actual charges only, with no mark up for our handling of the arrangements. We will provide you with copies of the utility company invoices when we receive them. Because of regular lengthy delays in utility company billing, we will invoice you estimated costs at the time of the move and refund/surcharge balance when we receive final invoices from the utility companies.
Preparation of house / site:
You will be responsible for preparing your lot and the house before the moving operation.
Access and proper location of building corner markers are very important. Call us if you are unsure of how your particular site has to be modified for access of the house and our equipment.
We expect you to prepare the building and sites as requited. This includes, but is not limited to:
- disconnecting all services
- removing any pipes / ducts, etc. under buildings
- removing trees or other obstacles
- removing chimneys, if required
- bracing or removing entrance roofs
- removing any asbestos or other hazardous products
- providing reasonable driving surfaces
- excavating as required
- clearly staking out new locations in the excavation, etc.
At the new site
Typically we will move your house to the new location and leave it at a height of one foot above final elevation to allow you to construct new foundation. The new foundation must have block-outs to facilitate the removal of our beams and equipment.
Every Municipality has different rules / by-laws. Please check with your Municipality for those that apply to you.
